Skype WiFi – great new way to access public WiFi networks

Popular internet telephony giant, Skype, has recently launched a new feature, Skye WiFi. The feature allows users to log on to public access WiFi networks and only pay for time used. Users are billed per minute, with rates varying by country and by service provider. It’s a great way to avoid expensive data roaming charges when travelling overseas and a useful and inexpensive way to supplement potentially patchy mobile phone networks.

The service is currently available for laptops and for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users. Unfortunately, a separate app will need to be downloaded as the functionality isn’t built into the existing Skype app. Hopefully Skype will roll out the service to Android users soon.
