Distracted driving: Just don’t

Anywhere but here

Anywhere but here by ShuttrKing|KT

Every driver has done it. I’m ashamed to admit I’ve done my share of it. Distracted driving. Any time your attention leaves the road, whether it’s your hands leaving the wheel, your eyes leaving the road, or your mind going for a wander, you’ve been guilty of distracted driving. Here are two reasons why distracted driving is so bad:

  • In 2011, more than 3,000 people were killed in accidents caused by distracted drivers
  • In 2010, 18% or 416,000 people were hurt in crashes due to distracted drivers

Perhaps the worst sin is texting while driving. Drivers who do this take their eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. Doesn’t seem like much, but it’s the equivalent of driving the length of a football field at 55 miles per hour. Blind. Headsets, you say? Research has shown that a drivers’ accuracy is significantly impacted when he is tending to tasks involving aural comprehension. Just don’t do it. It’s not worth it.

A fascinating discussion is worth comment. There’s no doubt that that you need to write more on this topic, it may not be a taboo subject but typically folks don’t discuss such topics.

    To the next! Kind regards!!

Thanks Valerie. I came across the subject when doing some research and thought I’d write about it and raise awareness. Thanks for reading.
