Up: Victoria Peak in Hong Kong

I shrug deeper into my light jacket as I snuggle up to the Doctor. The strong wind whips my hair about my face and sends chills through me as we wait for the light show to begin.

We are at the top of Victoria Peak in Hong Kong, with the bright lights of the city’s skyscrapers at our feet. From our vantage point atop the boat-like Peak Tower, the city looks tranquil, betraying none of the bustling energy below.

At 8pm, everything goes dark for a moment before the spectacular light show begins. Billed as “A Symphony of Lights”, Hong Kong’s daily light show is a feast for the eyes. Beams of multi-coloured laser lights shine on to and from Hong Kong’s most iconic buildings, including my favourite, the Bank of China Tower and its famous crosses.

Admittedly, The Peak isn’t the best vantage point. I much preferred the experience of seeing the lights from the waterfront promenade in Tsim Sha Tsui, complete with synchronized music and narration. But there’s something magical about seeing the light show from up high, feeling like you’re on top of the world without a care on your shoulders.

This post was inspired by the Weekly Photo Challenge: Up. I’ve also written two other entries for the challenge, Up: The Eiffel Tower, and Up: Coop’s Shot Tower in Melbourne Central, because I couldn’t decide which photo I liked the most. Hope you enjoy those two as well.

Thanks and hello to you too. I can’t seem to load the picture, either on your blog or on Flickr. Could it have been taken down?
